The long tail

The long tail is a web business such as amazone.com or netfix where a huge amount ofproducts are on sale and the specificity of it is that people wouldn't have the opprtunity to find them in a real shop due to the lack of place in their shelves and because those items are old fashioned and forgotten.

The objective of this business is to support the impulsive purchases by suggesting products which consumers do not even know and it's a kind of new marketing form because that requires new needs.

Customers are satisfied because they are able to find their item among a large variety of products and it generates a rise of the sales turnover for owners. For instance 70%of the sales turnover of gloria results from the funds of catalogues. For suppliers it's a big deal too because it can nevertheless sell their old items and increasing their sales at the same time.

The customer group served is a minority of people which have not “common tastes“ and don't follow the rules.

The competitors sites are cinesnap.com and locafilm for instance, they sell the same kind of products.

This model is unique to the web because you don't have limits in the web and you don't need place to store all your items so you could sell as much as you like.

This model is sustainable because people are fed up with common sources and need to express their own tastes so this kind of sources will tend to be more and more usefull.
